Scope and Contents The 1939 celebrations were cancelled due to the outbreak of the Second World War (1939-1945) on 1st September. Letters and telegrams were received from Sisters of Mercy and other well wishers, containing messages of support and greeting. Scope and Contents

Written by Sister Mary John Langan RSM, the annals include details of life at Burngreave Road as a young Sister, experiences of the Second World War (1939-1945), the years after the war to the closure of Burngreave Road and opening of Swanbourne Road. The bulk of the annals cover the years spent in Swanbourne Road community and include photographs, Mass booklets and news cuttings. Includes an undated Requiem Mass booklet for Sister M. Raphael Lowrie/Lowry RSM.

Scope and Contents The file contains folders of photographs of the pupils and staff of the Ave Maria School. There are individual school photographs; many images of the girls and sisters at work; the productions the school put on to entertain; school journeys; and sports events, crafts and needlework. Bermondsey, Dockhead, 1840 - 1945

Scope and Contents File contains drawings of the convent in Bermondsey 'from a drawing by Francis D Bedford' and a metal etching of the same. There is also a slide of the image of Dockhead in which the old Convent is just visible. In a separate envelope in the folder, are images of the convent after a V2 bomb hit the Most Holy Trinity Church on 03 March 1945 at the end of the Second World War and ricocheted into the convent. The file contains both coloured, and black and white Images of the convent buildings and chapel at Chislehurst. The sisters were housed there after the original Bermondsey convent had been bombed in Second World War until the new convent was built, Chislehurst continued as convent and Novitiate until it closed in 1978.
