Biographical/Historical note

Bermondsey Convent of Mercy was founded on 12 November 1839 by Catherine McAuley, foundress of the order, and the community celebrates its foundation on that date each year. The jubilees are celebrated at significant mile stones: 50 years, 100 years 150 years and more recently 175 years, plus the anniversary of the new convent being built in 1958.
