Scope and Contents note
Paperwork and correspondence between the Clerk to the Governors and the Superior General of Bermondsey Community (based at Chislehurst) relating to the running of St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Bermondsey, and infrequently to St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Eltham. Includes: a history of St Mary's RC School, Arnold's Place, Bermondsey (as the girls' school was known) to 1913; the employment of staff and appointment of governors; air raid precautions, requisitioning of school playground, evacuation to Lewes in 1939; tuberculosis in pupils and teachers; buildings and maintenance with related finances and plans also feature (the Inner London Education Authority had to approve works). Robert Sharp & Son, Chartered Architects, and K Quinn Ltd, Builders & Decorators, were frequently employed. Contains a Governors' Report to Parents dated 1990. St Joseph's was under the Trusteeship of the Institute of Our Lady of Mercy from 1991.
