Reprint of "A Short History of Christ Church, Eltham" by Ambrose Whitehead CRC, in which parish St Mary's Convent and school operated (reprinted in 1981 for the centenary of the Canons Regular of the Lateran's arrival in England. The file consists of a handwritten poem composed at Luves where some of the Bermondsey sisters were evacuated with school children during World War Two. It was written on 19 November 1942.

Scope and Contents

The file consists of two certificates from the British Red Cross Society for an examination in Anti-gas training for M Josepha Lalor RSM living in Eltham, typed story of the day the rocket fell on the Bermondsey Convent, a transcript from The Universe newspaper of June 21 1957; a letter to sister Francis from G K Hanley an H.M.I. dated 06 03 45 expressing thanks that the sisters escaped injury on the day the bomb fell.

Scope and Contents A presentation volume containing a rhyming poem commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Bermondsey foundation in 1839 "From the Convent of Mercy Bristol" (written in a scroll illustrated on the front cover). The poem is mounted on red leather board and tied with string. Opening and anniversaries of the new Bermondsey Convent of Mercy, rebuilt 1958, 1958; 1983

Scope and Contents A poem (may be a song) entitled "December 12th" to celebrate the opening of the new Bermondsey Convent of Mercy in 1958. Catherine McAuley made her vows as the first Sister of Mercy on 12th December 1831 and the date is therefore significant for the Order. The poem is annotated by an unknown hand with ticks and crosses. Scope and Contents The 1939 celebrations were cancelled due to the outbreak of the Second World War (1939-1945) on 1st September. Letters and telegrams were received from Sisters of Mercy and other well wishers, containing messages of support and greeting.
