Scope and Contents
The file consists of memorabilia, Mass books, and magazines produced for the centenary and 125th anniversary of Alpha school in Jamaica, and the centenary celebrations of the Sisters of Mercy in 1990. Included are documents from a conference 1992, attended by M Catherine Quane RSM, a member of the leadership team, and M Jerome O'Donaghue RSM, a representative of Bermondsey who worked in Peckham where there was a large Jamaican community. Also included is a 1837 to 1937 centenary souvenir of Vicariate Apostolic of Jamaica, an article about M Bernadette Little RSM and an article concerning reggae music and the influence of M Ignatius Davies RSM who nurtured a love of music in boys at the Alpha School where she taught. Also in a separate accession (#2016/012/00) is a picture of M Aquinas Kearns RSM who worked in St Anne's Orphanage, and was sent on Foundation to Jamaica 1890 to help found the Alpha School, she returned to Bermondsey 1908.
