Research by David Williams and the Crimean War Research Society with relevance to the graves of two Sisters of Mercy, 2004-2006
Scope and Contents note
A member of the Crimean War Research Society, David Williams met Marion McCarthy RSM at the National Army Museum and kindly assisted her by researching whether the graves of M. Winifred Spry RSM and M. Elizabeth Butler RSM (from Liverpool) were still extant in Balaclava, where they died in 1855 and 1856. The file includes photographs of his trip to the Crimea in 2005, lists of graves in the Crimea and Scutari as of 1873, a medal of 89th Regiment of Foot and some regimental details, a reproduction map of the area circa 1856, and letters to Sr Marion giving details and sending enclosures.
