Scope and Contents
Photocopies of two agreements between Henriette Adele, Dowager Duchess of Newcastle, Catherine Anne Dempsey RSM and Bishop John Butt over St Mary's Convalescent Home, Worthing, dated 09 November 1895. The Sisters of Mercy were to run the Home as Trustees under the supervision of the Bishop of Southwark. The Duchess agreed with the Bishop to maintain and support the Home.
Correspondence and finance dated 1932-1966 relating to two cottages in Camberwell New Road, sold August 1950; valuations of St Mary's Convent, Eltham, dated May-July 1939; stock (one letter dated 18 July 1939 anticipates war and advises on sale of Government securities); list of Deeds of Covenants of Sisters granting their income to the Trustees of the Bermondsey Congregation, with one Deed of Covenant for Mary Eleanor Dooley dated 04 November 1963; income tax; renting out the properties; property maintenance; contracts and professional charges from Gasquet, Metcalfe & Walton Solicitors; the Trustees Investment Act 1961-1962 and Charity Commission registration 1962-1963; as well as related letters from Stoneham & Sons Solicitors, Sister M. Brigid (Bursar, Convent of Mercy, Mount Vernon Street, Liverpool), Messrs Field & Sons, the London Borough of Southwark and one dated 1966 from the Greater London Council (Department of Highways and Transportation).
