Scope and Contents note
Series consists of records acquired and accumulated by the Bermondsey Congregation between 1841 and 1985. The series is made up of correspondence with solicitors and legal representatives regarding finances and property belonging to the Congregation. Sisters would give their worldly belongings to the Congregation when first professed as a Sister of Mercy, and originally required a dowry to enter. These monies would be invested for the maintenance of the Sisters and their works (including schools).

The arrangement of the series is designed to reflect creating body as far as possible in ten files. These divisions have been imposed by the Archivist as complete original order could not be ascertained. The files are arranged chronologically according to the initial on the file.
