Chalice, 1900
Scope and Contents
Mother Evangelist Costello, foundress and Superior of Alnwick Convent from 1890 to 1928, bought the chalice early in 1900. Her sister, Mary O'Connor, died tragically when the ferry sank in Oakland harbour, California, USA. Mary's family sent all her precious jewels to Mother Evangelist and they were inlaid in the chalice in her memory.
