Scope and Contents

The file consists of a handwritten history of the land on which St Mary's convent Southcoates Lane was built, it is handwritten onto the reverse sides of a Guildhall Meeting book, it was written in 1931 by Joseph H. Hirst; six sheets giving a typescript history of Wilton Street and Southcoates Lane convents. The red ink notations are from an account by Joseph H. Hirst in the 1932 College magazine, the notes in blue ink were probably by a Hull Sister of Mercy. In a separate accession #2019/06/12 is a hand written account by Joseph H. Hirst of 'Some historical references to the pre dissolution ownership of the land upon which is built St Mary's Convent of Mercy, Hull, Southcoates Lane.'
