Scope and Contents

The file consists of 1. The annals of Endsleigh between 1965 and August 1983, a typescript account of the Sisters' daily lives, it includes; photographs and photocopies of news articles; 2. A typed account of the sisters from Endsleigh College who went to Swanage, written by M. Felicity Dobson RSM including handwritten notes, and an account by M Paulinus Cooper RSM with notes about the crisis from 1929 to 1934, with accompanying photograph, Sister Paulinus was on the staff of the College at the time; 3. A press release which was used by BBC Humberside Viking Radio, Hull Daily Mail, and Yorkshire Post among other press outlets concerning the closure of Endsleigh Convent the beginning of the Pastoral Centre in 1995; 4. Nine handwritten volumes of the Annals of Endsleigh Convent and Training College, giving the details of daily life from 1905 to 1927: Volume I is from October 1905 to January 1907, volume II is from February 1907 to January 1908, volume III is from February 1908 to January 1909, volume IV is from January 1909 to January 1910, volume V, from January 1910 to December 1911 volume V, from January 1912 to December 1912 volume VII, from January 1913 to July 1914, volume VIII is from September 1914 to December 1916 and volume IX is for 1927 5. The file also includes annals prepared by the sisters which detail daily life from 1857 to 2002 and the end of Endsleigh as a convent and the beginning of the new Pastoral Centre.

Appraisal

The annals for 1992 have been appraised out because the volume was mainly an empty diary. Photocopies of Annals 1857 to 2002 have been taken out as Accession # 2019/06/23 is the original

Good

Volume 3 has a watermark on the corner, but the other volumes are in good condition. The medium is Hardboard, paper, and ink, type-script, newsarticles and photographs.
