Biographical / Historical

The file contains letters and documents mainly from Bishop Lacy concerning alterations to the constitutions and the status of Hull RSM and the aftermath of the change to their status. The Sisters came immediately under jurisdiction of the Holy See; the bishop had jurisdiction in all matters concerning rule and life but he could no longer nullify an election of a superior or make an appointment. There is, however, a list of appointments made by Bishop Shine to the Hull houses. The letters also recommend that the convents of Mercy eventually amalgamate.
