The dissertation was "Submitted to the Graduate School of the University of Notre Dame in Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy", Indiana, USA, June 1962.

Correspondence later gifted to the Institute of Our Lady of Mercy Archives by the Southwark Diocesan Archives explains why a copy of the dissertation arrived in the collection. Writing from Chislehurst 1953 to 1955, M. Scholastica Harkins RSM asked for copies of letters held in Southwark Diocesan Archives relating to the Crimean War to get a fuller picture of the Sisters' work there. Between 1960 and 1961, Mary McAuley Gillgannon RSM requested copies of the same material for her dissertation. The Southwark Diocesan Archivist, Fr. Styche, subsequently put the two Sisters in touch.

The correspondence was gifted from the Southwark Diocesan Archives as they sorted through the former Archivist's correspondence. It was deemed of value to the Institute of Our Lady of Mercy Archives as explaining how the American dissertation came to be held.
