Scope and Contents

The file consists of a photocopy of a typed letter to the Archbishop of Southwark explaining the formation of the Institute of Our Lady of Mercy and the community's joining; together with a letter thanking the recipient for a tour of the Heritage Centre at Bermondsey Convent. The file also includes photocopies from the Penny Catholic Magazine (1839) referring to newspaper attacks on the forthcoming foundation of the Convent of Mercy in Bermondsey.
