Stocks and shares, 1837-1881
Scope and Contents note
Stock certificates (of which the first is annuities of £901.5.0 of Miss Cecilia Best), often being the property of Sisters transferring their finances to Rev. Peter Butler on behalf of the Bermondsey Community upon entering. Dr George William Fitzgerald is a signatory on many of the certificates as Attorney and the file includes his detailed expenses sent to Rev. Peter Butler and subsequent Trustees of the Convent for work carried out. He also dealt with bequests and legacies to the Convent and the sale of stock. Ratton & Wood Stock & Chare Brokers acted on behalf of the Sisters at a later date and Charles Chadwick became their Attorney. Michael Forristall appears to have dealt with shares, possibly in connection with the Bishop of Southwark (three letters dated 1853).
