Archivist's research and correspondence, 1985-2007
Scope and Contents
The General Archives of the Institute of Our Lady of Mercy (now known as the Institute of Our Lady of Mercy Archives) were established in Bermondsey in 1984 in response to Vatican guidance, the Code of Canon Law and a Chapter Resolution calling for a central repository for the Institute's historical records and material relating to Catherine McAuley. The Archives were officially opened on 6 September 1986, with an Archive Fund established the following year and the Institute Archive Policy formally adopted in March 1987. The file also documents the early development of the Archives, including the appointment of archivists and provincial archivists between 1986 and 2007.
