Archivist's research and correspondence, 1985-2007
Scope and Contents
The General Archives of the Institute of Our Lady of Mercy (now known as the Institute of Our Lady of Mercy Archives) were initiated in Bermondsey in 1984 at the request of M. Imelda Keena RSM and her Council in response to the requirements of the Vatican Documents, the Code of Canon Law and the Chapter Resolution which stated, "There should be a central place where historical records and items of interest associated with Catherine McAuley are available and an Archivist to take the responsibility for such a resource centre".
On 06 September 1986, Reverend Michael Clifton presided at the official opening of the Archives. In January 1987 a generous Archive Fund was set up and further funding is supplied as necessary. The Institute Archive Policy was examined by M. Imelda Keena RSM and her Council and received formal acceptance in March 1987, when a copy was circulated to every Convent.
Marion McCarthy RSM was appointed Archivist in 1986.
