Scope and Contents
The series consists of 24 letters mostly between Sisters and the Bishops and Clergy, concerning the running of the Clifford mission and a small set of letters regarding a change to the habit.

Biographical / Historical
The Clifford mission was the idea of John William Lewthwaite who set up a trust in 1849 for the education of girls, this was referred to as the Lewthwaite Trust. The trust had an income from railway shares of approximately thirty pounds per annum. After various changes of occupants, Sisters of Mercy from Bermondsey settled to teach in the school in 1870.

Arrangement
The series is arranged into four files, the first holds correspondence with Bishops, and the clergy; the second holds untranslated documents in Latin; the third holds letters between Sisters and the Reverend Mother and the last file has letters which concern the missions.
